Chen Shui-bian TalkAsia interview (01-2007) Part 1/3

Presidential Election 2008

Presidential Election 2008

First airing on Saturday, January 27, 2007, this TalkAsia interview with Taiwan's President Chen Shui-bian showed his and the people of Taiwan's side of a story which is usually covered by the international media from Beijing's perspective.President Chen spoke in Mandarin throughout (think the pan-blues will applaud?), and you can hear a good bit of the original audio if you listen carefully, but there is a voice throughout giving a mostly-accurate English-language translation.Who are the real "troublemakers"? Both China and the pan-blue opposition in Taiwan who have clearly ruled out giving the people of Taiwan a say in their own future.See the intro to the interview here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... 2/3 is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... 3/3 is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... info: http://taiwanmatters.blogspot.... http://www.taipeitimes.com/New... http://taiwanmatters.blogspot.... President Chen is a unique and brave man. He could have done better if only KMT's delegates are willing to co-operate during his term. They opposed to anything he proposes, since KMT has more seats, by democracy KMT gets its way. However, the brave thing is he is determined to have Taiwan's people to have better lives, it is just sad because he was presidenting at the wrong time when the world's economy is dropping. The democracy and human rights he demonstrated for his people is amazing.

I just find my buddy buddy in Youtube. You are one of the two that are in the same boat as me.

Is Iraq free? Not unless you're into Extreme Daily Bombings and Cellphone Video Executions. (See above.) Who made the accusations against Chen? Pan-blues. Who helps them push the charges? Pan-blue media. Does Chen want a war? No. Does he want to buy defensive weapons from the US? Yes. Does the KMT want him to do so? No. Would they prefer if he just handed Taiwan to Beijing? Apparently.

The first three words of my first reply to you compared him with Bush, whom you then said was "the best president so far," but you didn't like that. When you submit five more comments within two hours, will I approve any of them? Not if you don't demonstrate much better logic.

Does Chen control the judicial system? Obviously not. If Chao successfully appeals his case, would you say he does? I bet you would. Who named Bush president in 2000? The Supreme Court of the United States. Can you prove your implications that Wu Shu-jen is "faking" her illness and took bribes? I challenge you to do so.

Does Chen want Taiwan to buy defensive weapons from the US? Yes. Will the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) let him? No. Does the KMT want Chen to be in a defenseless position? Probably. Do you read anything other than the pan-blue/pro-China media? Doesn't look like it.

John, I believe you started the comparison with the first 7 words of your earlier comment. Is Iraq "free" now? No. Is 120 dead (and counting) in a Baghdad market bombing a "safer world"? No. Is Chen threatening China with 1,000 missiles (and counting)? No. Does Chen want to start a war? I don't think so. Should he hand Taiwan over to the Beijing bullies? No way.
jjohny (December 31, 1969 at 3:59 pm)
It does not mean anything to me when Chen is better than China's unelected leaders. Chen should be better than them. I do not understand why people like you always compare Chen with worse people in the history. Do you think making such comparison make Chen looks better? I double it. You should compare Chen with many excellent leaders in the world.

Bush does not have a son-in-law sentenced to 7 years in jail because of many wrong doing. Bush does not have a wife accept bribery. Bush does not have a wife fakes illness and refuse to go to her trial.
